Do you think multitasking is a waste of time ?

Contrary to assumptions about multi-tasking in devices like PCs, smartphones, notebooks and net books being useful, experts believe that it can materially damage the economy. The problem is that human multitasking involves interrupting one task with another. There was a time when "interruption" meant an unexpected phone call or visitor and mail was delivered only once daily.

Now, employees are continually barraged with e-mail, instant messages, texts, BlackBerry traffic, blog updates, news feeds, Tweets, Web sites with enticing links and calendar reminders - and the phone still rings, people still drop by and paper mail is still delivered. Simply dealing with the deluge gives people the illusion of productivity.

As per me, our system, very well adapts to multitasking. I would rather say its a property of evolved species. Its upon a person to choose how many task he can handle in one time. Take an example of the Customer relationship officer who is amazing at multitasking, dealing with like two three customers at a time, Checking request, FD request, ATM card request, assist colleagues and even unique problem solving of the customers.

Not everyone can do it but smarter people do it. Its not a waste of time. Its management of more than one task at the same time.

So I would like to ask you all, is multitasking a waste of time ?
