Do you think globalization hurts or benefits farmers in lesser developed regions?

Globalization has raised the living standards and allowed for free trade, as well as an increase in exports. But do farmers get any benefit from it? Many are subsistence farmers. With technology developments, many farmers can't keep up with the competition.
Globalization opens up markets that otherwise would have been closed to farmers in lesser developed areas. Too, farmers in lesser developed areas need not remain at technological disadvantage for long with the flow of capital into lesser developed regions which globalization permits. It is true that some marginal farmers may not be able to compete under such conditions, but this may be an opportunity for marginal farmers to redeploy their capital in more profitable pursuits, and opportunity which may not have been discovered had globalization not revealed certain inefficiencies inherent in a particular region not well suited to farming. So overall I believe it to be beneficial.
