HISTORY OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP SKILLS TRAINING AT BCIT.
The new BCIT Self-Employment Program is the successor to the very successful and popular BCIT Entrepreneurial Skills Train-
ing (B.E.S.T.) Program which was a self-employment program sponsored by the Federal Government from 1999 to 2008. The
B.E.S.T Program was originally developed from BCIT’s Venture Program which has graduated close to 1000 businesses since its
incepton back in 1986. The Venture Program had gained a reputaton as a premier entrepreneurial skills training program and
Human Resources Development Canada (later Services Canada) approached BCIT to ofer a self-employment program which was
funded by the Federal Government. When the funding for such training programs were transferred to the BC Provincial Govern-
ment, BCIT took a hiatus from self-employment funded training but contnued with fee based programs. We are extremely
pleased to once again partner with Employment Service Centres to ofer the BCIT Self-Employment Program. The list of gradu-
ates from our programs who have gone on to success in building their businesses is too long to list and many have gone on to
create million dollar businesses.
