Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. is an American multinational semiconductor company based in Sunnyvale, California, that develops computer processors and related technologies for commercial and consumer markets. Its main products include microprocessors, motherboard chipsets, embedded processors and graphics processors for servers, workstations and personal computers, and processor technologies for handheld devices, digital television, automobiles, game consoles, and other embedded systems applications.
AMD is the second-largest global supplier of microprocessors based on the x86 architecture and also one of the largest supplier of graphics processing units. It also owns 8.6% of Spansion, a supplier of non-volatile flash memory. In 2010, AMD ranked twelfth among semiconductor manufacturers in terms of revenue.

AMD is treading carefully over channel expansion plans which could include the addition of Ingram Micro, a move the vendor is aware would upset existing distribution partners and lead to fierce competition and potential price cutting. In the UK, AMD currently has three distributors: Computer 2000 and two component specialists Avnet Applied Computing Components and Microtronica both of which have voiced concern at the prospect of competing with a second broadliner. The three distributor model extends throughout AMD's European channel, although Ingram Micro replaces Computer 2000 parent Tech Data in Germany, Switzerland
