Imagine your post-college career. Do you see yourself as a marketer? A strategy consultant? Will you decide to enroll in graduate school right away, or work professionally for a few years? Maybe you’re not entirely sure where you’ll be or what you’ll be doing.

As I mentioned in my last post on undergraduate preparation for the MBA degree, Chicago Booth offers a unique opportunity to test the waters – it’s called the Summer Business Scholars Program, or SBSP.* SBSP is a three-week business immersion offered each year in July. It’s been designed specifically for undergraduate students and/or early career professionals who are looking for a window into life as an MBA student and the types of careers available to them.

Study at Chicago Booth
As a Scholar, you will view Chicago Booth from a student’s perspective. You’ll take classes in the Harper Center, participate in leadership development workshops with the LEAD Program and go over resume review with our Career Services team. You’ll not only sit where our MBA students sit, you’ll experience the signature Chicago Approach to management education that our school is known for; meaning the idea that business education should be comprised of a vast array of sciences – be it economics, statistics, sociology or psychology – that will best equip students to solve the world’s greatest problems.

Visit top companies
One of the most compelling aspects of SBSP is the chance to visit the Chicago offices of some of the world’s best known companies.* Scholars have toured GrubHub, an internet start-up founded by Chicago Booth alum Matt Maloney, and were treated to an inside look at how to build a business from the ground up. Booth Scholars have also worked on a case study with consultants at Boston Consulting Group.* We’ve talked data driven marketing at Draft FCB and seen for ourselves the eclectic, novel work culture that thrives at Google.

For me, the most rewarding part about working with SBSP students has been seeing their eyes open to the possibilities available to them. I’ve seen English majors who, after visiting Draft FCB, realized how their creativity and communication skills were valued in that industry. I’ve worked with engineers who learned to interpret a financial statement and found a whole new language of numbers and formulas. I’ve watched entry-level investment bankers gain an appreciation for another side of business after dissecting a case in their marketing strategy class. No matter what your path has been, SBSP is an opportunity to see where it can lead.

Applications to the Chicago Booth Summer Business Scholars Program are being accepted now, and can be accessed through our website. Visit there to apply, read information on admissions requirements, application dates, and view what previous participants have said.

We’re also on Facebook and you can contact us with any questions you have. Representatives have visited a number of undergraduate institutions to talk about SBSP; let us know if you want us to come to yours!
