' Design Innovation Workshop '(DIY)[/b]
WeSchool and MIT Media Lab in a collaborative venture [/b]
The initiative is taken further with the installation of a high-end 3D printer at the INNOWE Lab at WeSchool[/b]
Welingkar Institute (WeSchool), Mumbai and MIT Media Lab, USA will jointly present the biggest 'Design Innovation Workshop', from January 27th to February 1st, 2014 at WeSchool campus in Mumbai. This is the flagship MIT Media Lab India Initiative that presents an opportunity for candidates with inter-disciplinary skills to work closely with some of the best researchers and mentors from MIT Media Lab and WeSchool.[/b]
WeSchool has been committed at encouraging Design and Innovation since 2006 and is the first business school to offer a PGDM in Design and Innovation. It has set up India’s first memetics and innovation lab: INNOWE. WeSchool has been instrumental in providing opportunities to people to develop design led approach towards today’s socio-economic scenario, through partnerships with national and international institutions. This is the first time that MIT Media Lab has collaborated with a B-school for this initiative. [/b]
As WeSchool gets ready for 'Design Innovation Workshop', the initiative was taken further by installing a High end 3D printer at the INNOWE Lab recently. 3D printing is one of the most exciting trends in the world of manufacturing as it allows designers to print out 3D models, drastically reduces the cost and time needed to create prototypes allowing for much more flexible and customized designs. Even more radically, 3D printing holds out the promise of having small factories in homes giving consumers the power to print-out objects that they use in their daily lives. We School acquired the uPrint SE Plus a 3 D printer from Stratasys for use in Innowe that uses Fusion Deposition Modelling (FDM) technology to create models in ABS Thermoplastic which are durable and accurate. Joseph Stephen, a VJTI engineering student and a CAD designer will work with students and faculty to convert product ideas into 3D designs which can be printed out. As WeSchool has incorporated the ‘design thinking’ approach in its pedagogy across all its programs, 3D printing fits well with this as this will not only give students exposure to one of the most important trends in manufacturing but also allow them to develop their product ideas into prototypes. The 'Design Innovation 'workshop consists of a number of tracks or focus areas that include Imaging Experiences, Living mobile, Design for creative learning, Performance capture, Design for sustainability, Magical Interfaces etc. where the participants will get an opportunity to work hands-on on some of most high-tech futuristic equipments like the 3D printers, mobiles, cameras etc. to turn the prototyped designs into real life products. Having embedded the philosophy of creativity, design thinking and innovation in all its management programs WeSchool takes another big step to present a series of opportunities for youth and corporates across India to gain practical experience in applying design thinking to various socio-economic issues and create solutions for benefit of stakeholders.[/b]
With programs in Business Design & Innovation, E-business, Retail, Healthcare, Rural Management, family managed businesses and several customized programs for various business sectors ,WeSchool is focused on integrating design thinking and innovation into mainstream management programs to create a common language between communities of technologists, designers, management students/professionals, engineers, medical professionals and artists to create an environment of interdisciplinary learning and solve problems of today. The focus has always been to 'involve' people from various walks of life to evolve the future. The 'MIT Media Lab -WeSchool Design Innovation Workshop' in collaboration with WeSchool is one more important milestone of the WeSchool "Design and Innovation" initiatives.[/b]
The application for the workshop is open for students and companies. Register by January 15, 2014. [/b]
