Depression is identified by medicine as "A disturbance in the production of brain chemicals". This disturbance could be caused by a combination of genetic tendency along with an external stimulus. The types of depression are major depressive disorder(where the normal depression symptoms are experienced), bipolar disorder (where you experience a mood swing between being over excited and happy to being depressed), Post-partum depression(depression that follows a childbirth), Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD (felt by some people at winter months). Depression can also be the result of a Prolonged Physiological stress or major physical changes in the body (for example due to a disease).
depression is somtimes the direct response for an external influence that happened,After all you can't just go to sleep happy and then wake up in the morning to find yourself depressed without some event happening. This kind of depression is then just a signal from your mind, asking you to take action, asking you to check out the problems in your life and to fix them.
Something must have already happened to make you feel so, some kind of a new situation that appeared, like a problem that don't seem to have a current solution, a person who deserted you, someone dear to you who passed away, some goals that you didn't meet, something you did that you feel guilty for, or it may be due to lack of purpose in life -which is still considered an unsolved problem.
Depression is sometimes referred to as repressed emotions, that's why crying could help you feel better (getting out some of these emotions). Modern medicine have proved that depression and genes are connected somehow, but that doesn't mean that you get depressed because of your genes, but instead, the tendency to get depressed as result of a past event is based on your genes, that means that two people could suffer the same problem but still, one get depressed and the other doesn't.
Many people state that depression doesn't have any connection to religion, while others claim that depression and religion are firmly connected. they also claim that the percentage of religious people that suffer from depression is the least and that those who don't believe in anything are more likely to get depressed than those who believe in God.
Depression medications used by most of the people for treatment are fine, they stimulate the human brain to restore its chemical balance. However, in case that there was an external influence causing the imbalance, your depression will get back to you as soon as you stop the medicine. The medicine in that case is like a painkiller for a broken hand, you won't feel the pain as long as you take the pain killer, but still if you don't restore your hand like it was, it will hurt you as soon as you stop taking the pain killer. so in that case solving the problem could remove the depression.
