The fiery quick showed the athleticism of a cheetah and the gracefulness of a gazelle to help the Proteas remove Pakistan opener Ahmed Shehzad early in Saturday’s World Cup clash at Auckland’s Eden Park.
Shehzad had mistimed a pull shot off Kyle Abbott and at first it seemed as though the ball would land safely out of Steyn’s reach.
But the world’s No.1 paceman had other ideas, running back and holding onto the brilliant catch, before landing face first in the turf.
Just to prove he’d made a clean catch Steyn held the ball aloft in delight while still lying face-down on the ground, providing photographers with the kind of shot they’d often dream of.
