CV Building Brick By Brick

Job hunting is always a tedious affair, and likewise the art of perfecting the ultimate CV is imperative to a successful venture. Many of the masses share differing opinions on what is right and wrong, but there are a few bare basics that have stood the test of time and can give you that extra push when others fail. Here we take a deeper look as some of the unspoken rules of making your CV the best it can be…

All About The Look[/b]

The first thing that anyone will notice about your CV is how it looks visually on the paper. You will be judged not only on the font and font size, but your formatting might also require closer inspection. One must always use as much space as possible to make it look fuller, and you should never try and stand out from the crowd too much when it comes to style. A simple white A4 sheet with black sans serif text and a strategic layout is all you need to get your point across.

Importance & Priorities[/b]

Knowing what you should and shouldn’t include on your CV can be a battle for some, especially if they have a vast history. Always include all of your qualifications with pass grades, and be sure to mention if you have any extra training such as health and safety or first aid. You also need to let them know about what you do in your downtime as this paints a much clearer picture on the type of person you are. Activities such as sports or craft can demonstrate both discipline and technique.

Big Yourself Up[/b]

[/b]

Your CV is your chance to shine like a star, and to potentially open doors. You need to be able to sell the skills you have in order to receive the most encouraging responses from employers. Remember, you have to stand out from the crowd and convince them that you are a vital asset. You should, however, exercise caution as you don’t want to over shoot and become slightly cocky. Try writing out a list of your strengths and subtly work them in.

Don't Mess It Up[/b]

[/b]

You might think that your CV is the bee's knees when you’re done with it, but if you haven't checked it thoroughly for errors you could find that your dream job becomes ever more distant. Most if not all employers will immediately throw away any CV's that have even the slightest error on them, whether you're right for the job or not. Spellcheck can give you a reasonable heads up but you will still need to cast your eye over it. You also need to make sure it reads well grammatically.
