• Creativity – Process of thinking up new ideas. Its something original, Sometime start from scratch.

• Innovation – Application of Ideas.
• Innovation is –
• When you make improvement or change in something already existing • New way of doing same things • Doing new things • Exist in every aspect of life professional / personal

Difference between Creativity & Innovation
• "Creativity is thinking up new things. Innovation is doing new things." - Theodore Levitt.
• Creativity – is thinking new concepts/ideas but Innovation – is making these new concepts/ideas practical in novel way.
• Creativity = New Ideas / Concepts
• Innovation = New Ideas/Concepts + Action “ Innovation is Creativity implemented”
Phases of Creativity
• Unconscious Scanning – Thinking about the problem / situation unconsciously. When new situation arises, mind starts scanning for the reasons and its solutions.
• Illustration: New symptoms of a disease found / new disease found, and a formulation scientists starts Thinking about it. At the initial stage it is called unconscious scanning.
• Intuition – Ability to decide or understand something Immediately with out reasoning. It means finding new combinations and integrate diverse concepts and ideas. Intuition is instinct / gut feel. Generally strengthens with experience.
• Illustration: After understanding the symptoms of the disease, the scientist BELIEVES that a particular drug / combination of drugs would work on those symptoms.
Phases of Creativity
• Insight – Capability to gain accurate and deep understanding of a situation / problem / product. It comes from hard work and experience of working on a problem / situation.
• Illustration: The formulation scientist analyses the disease data, symptoms and do trial and errors with the data and understands reasons. Designs a new drug as solution.
• Logical Formulation or Verification – Acquired knowledge is tested through logical data / experiments.
• Illustration: After the new drug is designed it is tested internally and externally through various processes including clinical trials. After verification it is launched in market.

• Every organization requires creative & Innovative people.
• • • • • • • To conceptualize new product or new service To develop and delivery new product and service To create a niche branding / marketing for its products To reach to new customer and compel them to buy its product To serve customer and satisfy the customers To retain / satisfy employees To build competitive strategies
• Businesses like Formulation/ Biotech / IT / Telecom etc.. are solely dependent on the creativity and innovation and its employees / stakeholders
