DEFINITION
“The ability to produce novel and useful ideas” -T. M. Amabile. These are ideas that are different from what’s been done what s before but that are appropriate to the problem or opportunity presented. Creativity is breaking habits, combating complacency y g g y and striving for originality, change and innovation.

A study on creativity of 461 men and women found that fewer than 1% were exceptionally creative But 10 % were creative. highly creative and about 60 % were somewhat creative This suggests that creative. most of us have creative potential; we just need to learn to unleash it – it. C.G.Morris.

COMPONENTS OF CREATIVITY
Three basic components: p 1. Expertise: It is the foundation for all creative Expertise: work. Any task requires certain talents, knowledge, or skills. The potential for creativity is enhanced when individuals have abilities abilities, knowledge, proficiencies, and similar expertise in their field of endeavor. For example, you would not expect someone with a minimal ld t t ith i i l knowledge of programming to be very creative as software e g ee so t a e engineer.

CreativeCreative-thinking skills: This encompasses personality characteristics associated with creativity, the ability to use y, y analogies, and the talent to see the familiar in a different light. Some people have developed their creative skills because they are able to see problems in a new way. They are able to make the strange familiar and the familiar strange.

3. Intrinsic task motivation: motivation: This is the desire to work on something because it is interesting, involving, exciting, satisfying, or g, g, g, y g, personally challenging. This motivational component is what turns creativity potential into actual creative ideas. It determines the extent to which individuals fully engage their expertise and creative skills Creative people often love skills. their work, to the point of seeming obsession.

PROMOTING CREATIVITY IN ORGANIZATIONS
