MUMBAI: A coaching class teacher accused of raping his student had a mild heart attack on Saturday morning after being assaulted by Shiv Sainiks outside a magistrate's court in Ulhasnagar. The Sainiks threw shoes at him and tried to blacken his face.

Lal Tanwani (46) was arrested by the Ulhasnagar police on Friday evening after a 17-year-old student complained to the police that he had been raping her since January this year after promising to give her better marks.

On Saturday, a large crowd collected near the police station from where Tanwani was to be taken to court. The police managed to divert the Sainiks by using a dummy, while Tanwani was taken to the court through another entrance.

Soon after standing before the magistrate, Tanwani complained of dizziness and chest pain. The police were helping him out of the courtroom when the Sainiks attacked him, throwing slippers and trying to blacken his face. Tanwani suffered a mild heart attack and collapsed.

Tanwani was taken to Ulhasnagar Central Hospital and later shifted to Thane Civil Hospital. He has been remanded to police custody till December 3. He is the owner of Padma Coaching Classes where he also teaches.
