Competition against others is an illusion. Winning is not what brings us deep inner soul satisfaction. Winning is not what makes us a good or bad human being. Being the best or first at what you do does not necessarily make you a winner or make you successful. Inside each of us there is a competition going on that we may not even know exists.
In this life there is only one competition that is worth getting involved in and becoming aware of. That is the competition between your true self and your ego. Your ego is always trying to overcome the true self. The ego needs recognition, praise, to be important to others. The egos’ desire for competition with others is a means to prove it worthy. The ego is affected by others perception of it. The ego feels a need to measure up to others standards.
The true self is the inner man. The true self is the soul and spirit of each of us. The desire of the true self is to know who it is, what its purpose is. The true self wishes to embrace Truth at all costs. The true extraordinary self can be shoved aside by the egos desire to shine and not be found out as ordinary. The ego does not know humility and meekness. It is important to the ego to be thought well of by others. But the ego will always remain just ordinary because it is built on false perceptions of the self.
The true self however is not ordinary, it is extraordinary. It is what we were created to be. It is love, creativity and one with the creator able to do great and marvelous things when set free from the ego. The ego avoids truth about itself in its desire not be humbled. The ego is fear based and self protective. The true self does not need to protect itself because it knows it is perfect just as it is. The true self strives to be the best it can be, always learning, practicing, persevering, the desire of the true self is to be true to itself. The true self longs for communion with God. To do the best that it can, to become the best it can be for the sake of knowing a job well done, for the joy of knowing it did its best. The true self does not need to set itself against others for it knows that being authentically itself is the highest form of accomplishment. The true self exists for something higher, something more lasting: The inner knowledge of living true to itself and peace of having done the best it could do. The knowledge of knowing it has served man kind well by being true to itself and making the world a better place.
