Dish Network Corporation is the United States' third largest pay-TV provider, providing direct broadcast satellite service—including satellite television, audio programming, and interactive television services—to 14.337 million[3] commercial and residential customers in the United States. Dish Network has approximately 24,500 employees, most of which are located within the U.S. The corporate office is based in Meridian, Colorado, though the postal designation of Englewood is used in the company's mailing address.
Offspring of the Echostar Satellite L.L.C., and founded by Charlie Ergen, his wife Candy and their friend Jim DeFranco as a satellite TV equipment distributor in 1980, DISH Network was officially branded in March 1996. This branding came after the successful launch of its first satellite, Echostar I in December 1995 and marked the beginning of the company offering subscription television services. The company has since launched numerous satellites, with 14 owned and leased satellites currently[when?] in its fleet.
As of January 2008, DISH Network split from Echostar, with each entity becoming a separate company. Echostar is the key technology partner to DISH Network, which focuses only on marketing and providing satellite television service.
As of 2011, the company competes primarily with satellite rival DirecTV and with cable television providers, but telecommunication companies' development of fiber-optic lines has increasingly become competition for the company. The company is a Fortune 200 company.

DISH Network Corporation is a pay-television provider, with approximately 14.133 million customers across the United States as of December 31, 2010. The Company’s products include Programming, Receiver Systems, DISHOnline.com, DISH Remote Access and Google TV. The principal digital broadcast operations facilities it uses are EchoStar’s facilities located in Cheyenne, Wyoming and Gilbert, Arizona. The DISH Network programming is delivered to customers using satellites that operate in the Ku band portion of the microwave radio spectrum. The Ku-band is divided into two spectrum segments. The portion of the Ku-band that allows the use of higher power satellites 12.2 to 12.7 GHz over the United States, is known as the Broadcast Satellite Service (BSS) band, which is also referred to as the Direct Broadcast Satellite (DBS) band. The portion of the Ku-band that utilizes lower power satellites 11.7 to 12.2 GHz over the United States, is known as the Fixed Satellite Service (FSS) band.
Programming
The Company provides programming, which includes more than 280 basic video channels, 60 Sirius Satellite Radio music channels, 30 premium movie channels, 35 regional and specialty sports channels, 2,800 local channels, 250 Latino and international channels, and 55 channels of pay-per-view content. In addition, it provided local HD channels to markets representing approximately 94% of the United States television households.

Some of its advanced receiver models feature DVRs, HD capability, dual tuners (which allow independent viewing on two separate televisions) and Internet-protocol compatibility, which allows consumers to view movies and other content on their televisions via the Internet and a broadband connection.
DISHOnline.com

Google TV
