Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal today said all the State Governments would be taken into confidence before deciding on the proposal for a Common Entrance Test (CET) for Engineering Courses.

Although, I would agree with it completely but as AICTE has come up with this rule of banning Entrance Examinations like XAT etc. so there is a dire need of CET but at the same time it would be a really difficult task to get all state governments together on this issue

I dont think it is possible to have Common entrance test(CET) for Engineering courses.Different states have different policy, different eligibilty criteria, different qoutas.
Example:-In Karnataka Basic eligibility criteria for engineering courses is 10+2(PCM/PCB) with 60% or above whereas in some states like west bengal, orissa, bihar criteria is 10+2 with 50% or above.

One of the biggest issue that will come across is politics.Ego clashes between states ruling parties
