The University
City University of Hong Kong is committed to providing quality higher education to its students. We strive to produce a new breed of graduates who will excel in their professions and possess a broad knowledge base to cope with the challenges of a changing world.
The educational philosophy of the University emphasizes whole person development so that students will receive ample opportunities to nurture both the “breadth” (analytical and problem-solving skills, knowledge of the world) and “depth” (subject knowledge and professional skills) of their minds. While the University sees undergraduate education as its core competence, it also places due emphasis on developing part-time programmes, especially at the postgraduate level, to meet the growing demands of life-long learners in an ever-changing society.
The University has achieved phenomenal growth since its establishment in 1984. To date, it has a student population of 26,045 enrolled in over 145 programmes at the associate degree, undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
The Business School
As one of the biggest business schools in Hong Kong, it is our role to help the Special Administrative Region maintain its competitive position. Our long standing relationships with partners in mainland China and Hong Kong business circles enable us to fulfill this role professionally and with quality.
The mission of the Faculty of Business is to be a centre of academic and professional excellence dedicated to meeting the educational needs of the Hong Kong business community. In doing so, it creates a climate of scholarship and high academic endeavour that challenges academic staff to excel in their chosen fields in teaching, research and consultancy.
The Program
The primary aim of the programme is to provide aspiring managers, from both private and public sectors, a professional education, in which their managerial competence and skills can be elevated, to better enable them to achieve their career goals. The MBA programme goes to the heart of modern management practices. It offers an experience-based learning approach, which looks behind the technical and analytical skills to the successful strategies used by managers in arriving at and implementing decisions for the rapid transformations in today's marketplace and organisations.
Entry Requirements
To be eligible for admission to MBA, an applicant must satisfy the following minimum entrance requirements:
- A recognised degree with 2nd class honours or above, or equivalent; plus
- Normally 3 years of work experience; and
- An acceptable GMAT score or equivalent subject to approval of MBA Programme Director
and
all shortlisted applicants are required to attend an interview.
Applicants whose entrance qualification is obtained from an institution where the medium of instruction is not English should also fulfill the following minimum English proficiency requirement: a TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based test) or 213 (computer-based test); or
an overall band score of 6.5 in International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or
band 6 in the Chinese mainland's College English Test; or other equivalent qualifications.
Participants who satisfy the above minimum entrance requirements and possess a recognised master's degree from relevant business discipline may apply for credit transfer for equivalent courses, up to 50% of the credit load of the MBA programme. In this regard, participants may be able to complete the programme requirements within 1 year. Courses completed for fulfilling professional qualifications which are equivalent to a bachelor's degree will not be considered for credit transfer.
Location
Hong Kong consists of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories. The Kowloon Peninsula is attached to the New Territories in the north, and the New Territories are in turn connected to mainland China across the Sham Chun River (Shenzhen River). In total, Hong Kong has 236 islands in the South China Sea, of which Lantau is the largest. Hong Kong Island itself is the second largest and also the most populated. Ap Lei Chau is the most densely populated island in the world.
