The college began its higher education journey as a science college in the year 1958 with just 25 students for the first batch of B. Sc science course. Later in the year 1964, PG courses were introduced and in the year 1972, commerce faculty was added. Thus, the college has been showing a study development right from its inception.

The campus of D.N. College is spread in a large campus with all required infrastructural facilities and there are 27 classrooms, staff rooms, instrumentation rooms, department libraries and science laboratories in the campus. The management body of the institution contributes towards the annual infrastructural development of the college and it is also earning five-year plan grants from the University Grants Commission. The management allocates a certain amount of funds towards development of basic infrastructure, building and related aspects.
Sports & physical education at the college:
Physical Education and sports are an integral part of the course curriculum of the college since the college believes that these activities can go a long way in development of multi-dimensional personality of a student.
