Giving charitable animal donations at Christmas time has become increasingly popular in recent years, in the USA, UK and elsewhere. Instead of buying a relative or friend a conventional present, and giving it to them directly, the giver pays for a charitable donation of a farmyard animal to be made on behalf of their loved one. Goats are the most common gift, but cows, camels, alpaca and chickens are also widely available.
