Mumbai: Pakistan cricket fans were preparing watching their favourite cricketers in action. Instead they are left wondering when international cricket will be played in their country again after the Champions Trophy in Pakistan has been postponed.
Indignant fans say, "Foreigners who have a misconception about Pakistan. They think the conditions are not favourable for sports here. Each and every thing is running smoothly in Pakistan."
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is trying to make the best of the situation and are hoping to organise a tri-series involving India in South Africa.
PCB Chief, Shafqat Naghmi said: "The Board of Cricket Control India (BCCI) president during the teleconference gave us 50 per cent assurance that this might be possible. We have also spoken to Australia so if the South African plan does not materialise we can involve them. We first have to see how the BCCI responds because their participation will help boost broadcasters' and sponsors' interest in such a series."
But will the BCCI play ball? India is scheduled to play a three Test and five ODI series in Pakistan in January, so organising a bi-lateral series between the two teams at this stage is not an option. The BCCI has been openly supportive of the PCB through its recent problems, but for now are keeping their cards close to their chest.
BCCI's CAO, Ratnakar Shetty says as of now there are no plans for a bi-lateral series.
When was the last time India's cricketers got a full month off? Everytime the men in blue take the field, the board rakes in the moolah, so don't be too surprised if this forced gap in the calendar is also filled up pretty soon.
