1) Tell us something about your background.
I have always been a person who has dreamt of studying in a good B-school and having the best learning experience of my life.
I have studied and worked in Kolkata all along.
My 10th and 12th was in ICSE board. I did my BCA from Techno India, Saltlake, Kolkata. Doing Marketing, I worked with a startup production house for 14 months and then with an import-export license trading house for 4 months.
I plan to take up a specialization in Marketing with career focus on Promotions as personal interest.
2) What is your goal in life and why do you want to pursue Management?
My long term goal is to be a good Marketer. Also I would want to set up a venture to setup an organized employment system for the youth .i.e. something where I market people and get them working. I wish to develop skills and the attitude required to succeed in the corporate world through an MBA.
3) How did you prepare for CET?
I only focused on CET specific strategies. I didn’t join a coaching class for CET, I just took the mock papers. I also took the mock papers of some other classes through friends.
4) Please enumerate the difference between CET and other exams management exams ?
CET is a perfect blend of Speed and Accuracy. You require both of them. Its virtually answering a question every 36 seconds. For other exams speed is a lesser factor and you focus a lot on speed all the way. Ome extra seconds spent on one question mean you are missing on some other questions.
5) What is the difficulty level of CET as compared to CAT?
These are two entirely different types of tests. CAT tests the candidate’s ability to attempt the questions that they are comfortable and confident of answering. Whereas CET is a test of your being composed and quick to answer everything well, CAT is all about judging your skills and performing accordingly. Obviously in terms of questions, CAT is more difficult but CET had taken itself to another level too but its still is your skill to be composed and perform to the best of your capability.
6) What were the salient features of your CET preparations during the last 15 days to CET?
Last 15 days were crucial. In some of my last mocks , I wasn’t performing to they way I would I have liked to but then I practiced and got back to form. Being confident is very important and I made sure I had all my basics right.
7) What was your strategy for the CET exam day?
I knew CET was going to be a surprise like always. So didn’t think much. I focused on not being stuck to one question and try to attempt as many questions possible.
I just went with the flow. Arrangements, though my strength were the most time consuming questions. So I left those out and went on doing the rest. I was composed but was aware that it was not the best that was happening to me. The key is how one handles the stress. At the end of the day I had around 140-150 genuine attempts.
8) CET also involves lot of Speed. Any special strategies for that aspect?
The simple strategy is be fast, accurate and avoid getting stuck. You can’t afford to get stressed out. Just be relaxed and enjoy the paper. I have always enjoyed giving the CET because it involves a lot of speed and accuracy.
9) Any change in preparation strategy in hindsight?
With CET, you always have to be flexible. Give yourself various options. Be good at all the topics that come in CET because you have to attempt them all.
10)List the 5 most important preparation points with 15 days remaining and some mistakes to avoid.
1> Speed is the key when CET is concerned.
2> Be calm , relaxed and confident about your preparation.
3> Solve as many mock papers as possible. Sharing mocks with friends is a very good option.
4> Analyze all your mocks carefully. It usually takes more time to analyze then attempt a mock. Look at where you go wrong and try to get them right. In the questions which you got right, find out if there was a faster way to get them right.
5> Its just a testing point for you. Be cool. MBA is not the end/aim of life. It’s a way to get yourself equipped to some knowledge, experience learning at a B-school of your choice.
Mistakes to avoid:
• Don’t feel tensed if your paper is going bad. Don’t judge yourself. Always remember, if its tough for you, it will be equally tough for everybody else.
• Keep practicing no matter what. There is no end to improvement. One of my best learning is that even though I was one of the best rankers in the Mocks, CET was very different. But then that was what my performance got me on that day. Never feel that you are done with your preparation because with CET , you never know what is coming your way.
• Practice is the way out. Practice different kinds of mocks from different institutes to be able to test yourself better.
11) How is life at MET?
Life is pretty smooth at MET. You get a good amount of theory as well as practical knowledge. I have also been participating in various competitions and taking up a lot of internships in free time. Its all a learning experience.
12)Among its contemporaries, where do you place MET
MET might not be one of the top rated institutes of the country but then, you are still among some of the bright minds that are going to be the corporate honchos tomorrow. MET definitely has the potential to reach among the best provided the students and the administration work together towards it.
13)Can you give an insight of the factors that affected your choice of college?
For me, it was very simple. The history, supplementary factors and the experience have to be good. I had to go to the best college that my marks take me to.
14)Give some advantages which MET enjoys over other colleges in its league?
Location. Bandra. It’s one of the hubs of Mumbai and the prime Business are BKC isn’t far away. Also its one of the hotspots if the city in terms of footfall.
Dedicated Alumni network. We have a rich alumni network that are doing well in the industry. We haven’t had an alumni meet for some years now. This year , the students have taken an initiative to form a committee to reunite all the Alumni to MET. I am a part of the committee and we focus to bring the alumni back to share their knowledge through mentoring, interactive sessions, lectures, etc. All to provide a good industry experience to the students
15)How was your experience in the CET Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GD-PI)?
My GD PI centre was in Nagpur and this was my 1st GDPI for CET. I was practically unaware of what was coming my way
GD: The GD went quite well. Almost everyone got a chance to speak. I had a good amount of involvement in the discussion. The marks weren’t that good but it wasn’t bad after all. Should have scored more. My performance was way more than 11 marks.
PI: PI seemed a confusing situation where the interviewers rejected everything I said and had their point of their own. But overall it was a cakewalk as I justified all my answers and managed everything with a smile to get 16 marks
