Can IPL follow the F1 lines?

Recently,Honda has withdrawn its F1 team citing the global slowdown. In the wake of that,FIA has come-up with the idea of reducing the cost of conducting the F1 races. This is a good move in this scenario. One of the costilest events conducted in India is IPL league. It has involved a lot of money in the form of auctions, endorsements.I think we should act responsible in this scenario. It doesn't make any sense to spend too much in sports.I don't want to stop the league. We must reduce the cost whereever possible and we must act responsibly.

What do you say guys?

IPL thrives on sponsors and the craze for cricket in the country. Like Vodafone backing out of England team sponsoring afer 2010, Indian companies also will stop putting money on cricket if the economic recession continues.

agreed siva bt still sports has a guaranteed ROI...
take the case of EPL, MLB, NBA whatever be the economic situation, gate receipts r full...
same is expected fr IPL season 2...
F1 is a different ball game altogether as team sustains on various sponsors which r badly affected during recession. Teams like Honda, Ferrari Renault, Toyota etc hv their own team as well as engines. However, other than Honda other 3 hv still shown their better performance in F1. Honda has miserably so it wishes to continue only with engines and not team which is a fair decision.

Hi Prasad,
Even in IPL we have big corporates sponsoring the Team like Chennai superkings supported by India Cements,Bangalore team sponsored by Kingfisher.More to it the players are auctioned for amounts which is running for Crores of rupees life Dhoni was auctioned for Rs.6 crores which is a big money at this point of time.It doesn't get over with that.Next comes the sponsorship money,ad spending,TV rights and ticket charges which will all make this atleast equivalent to F1 race cost.In F1 you will spend money in track maintenance and car maintanence incase of IPL the money is spent on players auctioning and team maintenance.I don't want IPL to stop what is say is all this auction can be stopped for this year so the total cost involved for this game can atleast come down which will be a judicious decision considering the market scenario. They can also try to reduce the cost of tickets which will be a boom for cricket lovers in India.

hey deepak...
i do agree IPL is big bt F1 is bigger...
this is because the revenue one F1 race generates over weekend is almost equivalent to wht an IPL season can generate...
wen it comes to recession, i agree tht IPL teams will be affected bt nt as much as F1 teams as Indian Cricket is still earning grounds fr sponsors...so corporates shall check in...moreover, this is a cricket fanatic nation, so gate receipts shall b full...
i m jus unsure wht will b response wen F1 comes to India...
