JOINING DCM GROUP ? Joined the DCM group as a management trainee in 1977. ? Left the job as a Lower divisional clerk in Orissa Government due to lack of some real and challenging work. LEARNINGS ? The difference between the Government and Corporate Job. ? The compromises that corporate world demands of an Individual.
DECISION TO SWITCH OVER TO HCL
?
A disagreement with the management in DCM group resulted in his being sidelined in the company. He decided to switch to a sales job in HCL but that would have meant a salary cut of almost 40%. It was at this time that a chance reading of Richard Bach?s Jonathan Livingston helped his decision by teaching him that “life?s true purpose is not to live to earn, it?s about having the courage to take flight.”

his experience in HCL he realised that in a management career a sales job is a great way to reach the top.
PROJECT 21

Joined project 21, an IT training startup as a founder member. The decision was influenced by his brief stint at MMC after whose closure he was left jobless. The entrepreneurial venture was a big failure. LEARNINGS Bagchi?s personal learning from this failed venture was that - “Growth-bound start-ups need capital to run operations; they cannot be held hostage to fluctuating operational cash flow.”
