Hi friends,

Small town people are demanding it, even richer family are involved in such things. The most ridiculous and shameful thing is killing the bride in case not getting demanded amount. I recently attended a wedding of my relative in which I came to know that groom's father returned all the things given by bride side and demanded cash instead of it.

This dowry is that problem which make me feel that India is still a under developed country in terms of thinking and respect to women.

Social evils like bride burning and dowry may look bad but are still integral part of ancient Indian practices.Bride burning was strongly prominent in ancient India but still in spite of so much development and progress in India such socially evil practices are still practiced in rural India. The girls parents are expected to pay huge sum of money irrespective of whether the girls parents can afford or not.If the expectations aren't met then the punishment starts like a slow killer like wife bitting, mental torture, physical abuse and then the last stage is pay for your life as the demands weren't met.
Why cant it be the other way since groom and his family members arent treating the bride properly so why the same punishment be given to them??

I also agree with the fact that dowry is vital component of Indian as we are told, nowadays also more than 50%u0025 of individuals don't desires for daughter on account of dowry. People believe girls bring financial problem for then and become burden due to dowry. Moreover we have taken steps for stopping this culture and make some strong rules but first we have to change our mindset for the complete solution of this issue.
