Blizzard Shutting Down City - MTA and Port Authority

The MTA and Port Authority will be shutting down the city's mass transit at 11 p.m., as well as restricting travel on all roads, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced moments ago.
Only emergency vehicles will be allowed on the roads past 11 p.m., with violators facing possible fines of $300 and a misdemeanor charge.
The decision to shut down the subway—as well as the LIRR and Metro-North—is an effort to better preserve the system for the coming days, Cuomo said.
"Our feeling is that the storm has gotten worse, and to protect the system rather than have longer delays trying to put the system back online, [we'll] close it at 11, put the cars in a safe place, and be prepared to open the system when it's ready," he said.
Virtually all flights to and from La Guardia have also been cancelled, as well as most flights to and from JFK.
