Mr. Nitin Gadkari, President of the Bharatiya Janata Party addressed the students of IIM Calcutta on 30th November. In his inimitable humorous and honest style, he narrated several anecdotes from his personal and professional life, making the audience laugh and think. An MBA graduate himself, Mr. Gadkari was able to connect with the crowd almost instantly, as he spoke on public policy making and private partnership in government projects.[/b]

He recalled his days as the PWD Minister of Maharashtra and talked about the various initiatives he took as a part of his term. He talked about diversification of agriculture not only towards food, but also towards energy and power sector. He emphasized the use of bio-fuels as an alternate source of energy in India in the time to come. He mentioned the problems that are plaguing the current governance system and urged the students to be development oriented and have a strong political will.

The talk was organized by the Club Colloquia on campus to engage the students with a topic that usually escapes the attention of budding corporates in the country today. The talk let a lot of students motivated to contribute, in their own little way, to the task of nation building as they set out to begin their professional careers.
