MUMBAI/DELHI: India Inc’s globalisation journey is proving to be a bonanza for Indian business schools. A student at the Hyderabad-based Indian School of Business (ISB) has bagged an offer of Rs 1.04 crore ($233,800), the highest across all Indian B-schools this year, for an international position with an Indian IT company. ISB dean M Rammohan Rao declined to disclose the name of the recruiter.
"This year, we had as many as 42 international offers, many of which came from Indian companies for their global operations,"said Rao. With the $233,800 international offer, ISB has trumped IIM-Calcutta’s record for the highest international package ever ($225,000 in 2001). It has also outdone IIM-Bangalore’s figure of $193,000, the highest so far this year. In fact, four ISB students — including two women — have crossed the magic figure of $200,000. At $120,700 (Rs 53.5 lakh), the average international salary was up 21% over last year. "A lot of this is because we have students with substantial work experience and many of them have worked abroad,"said Rao.
Women graduates have done well in recruitments. Said Rao, "This year we have seen more women land leadership roles."Interestingly, a woman graduate recruited by an international energy company, has bagged a salary of $2,23,400 (Rs 1.01 crore), setting a record of sorts.
ISB’s average domestic salary of Rs 11.77 lakh (an increase of 18% over last year) was higher than that of any Indian school this year (IIM-C’s average Indian salary was the highest among all IIMs this year and stood at Rs 9.81 lakh). However, ISB’s highest domestic salary of Rs 30.33 lakh is lower than IIM-Ahmedabad’s Rs 34 lakh.
The ISB class of 2006 has 345 students, of which 328 participated in the placements. Over 145 companies came to campus for recruitments this year. The usual industry sectors continued to dominate the placements. Most of the offers (almost 41%) were made by consulting companies, followed by sales and marketing, IT, banking and financial services, FMCG and retail.
