Introduction

Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar, has completed, in 2002, 15 years of purposeful existence, offering quality management education with a human face. During this short span of its existence, XIM has established an identity of its own, and it is getting to be known not only for its Post-Graduate Programmes but also for projects usually not found in management institutions in India or elsewhere. The Institute owes its origin to a Social Contract between the Government of Orissa and the OJS (Orissa Jesuit Society).



Courses Offered

Post Graduate Programme in Management

This is the flagship programme of the Institute, comparable to the MBA level programmes of premier business schools in India and abroad. The two-year programme is designed to prepare competent men and women for careers in management in the corporate sector and in public systems. The courses impart a generalist perspective, which will enable students to view the entirety of an organisation as well as its place in a larger environment. The students are also trained in technical and functional business skills such as accounting, finance, marketing and production; and are helped to develop their analytical and integrative skills so that they can define problems with clarity and formulate alternative solutions for implementation.

Eligibility

The minimum requirement for admission to the Programme is: A three-year Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any discipline recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as eligible for Post-Graduate studies in Management. Candidates who expect to complete the final part of their degree examinations by June 15, 2006, may also apply. Offers of admission to such candidates, if made, will be provisional and will be automatically cancelled in the event of their failing to complete all the requirements for obtaining the degree before June 15. A student after joining for a programme in this Institute will not be permitted to sit for any examination of any other institution or agency.


Admissions Procedure

Applicants are required to take the Admission Test (XAT) to be conducted by XLRI, Jamshedpur, on 8th January, 2006. For this, applicants have to log on to www.xlri.edu and apply online for XAT. Registering for XAT is a prerequisite for applying to XIMB.



Selection Procedure


The institute will decide the section wise cut-off marks as well as weights that will be assigned to different components of XAT score. The composite score so derived will be used for shortlisting candidates to be called for Group Discussion and Personal Interview. GD & PI will held at Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai. Candidates will have to meet their own travel expenses for appearing in the GD & PI. The final selection will be on the candidate's performance in the XAT and Group Discussion and Personal Interview(which factors in the past academic record and relevant work experience). The selected candidates will be informed by mail by around April 10, 2006

Fees

Annual fee structure is Rs. 1.35 lakh approximately.


Post Graduate Programme in Rural Management

Traditionally, industry has been the main focus of management science. Xavier Institute of Management made an innovative departure by emphasizing the need to expand the use of management science to rural sector in the form of creating managers not only for corporate sector but also for the social sector. The basic objective of introducing the two years PGPRM course is to inject professionalism in the field of rural economy.

XIMB's Rural Management programme aims at training professional managers for the rural sector. The course is designed to address the following objectives:
Blending the managerial knowledge and practices of people with modern management science and techniques.
Building and strengthening people's organisations.
Knowledge and skill needed for effective utilisation and management of human and valuable resources.
Application of technology to analyse factors influencing rural realities.
Generating an interface between the corporate sector and social development

Eligibility

The minimum requirement for admission to the Programme is: A three-year Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any discipline recognized by the Association of Indian Universities, with at least 50% marks in aggregate. Candidates who expect to complete the final part of their degree examinations by June 15, 2006 may also apply. Offers of admission to such candidates, if made, will be provisional and will be automatically cancelled in the event of their failing to complete all the requirements for obtaining the degree before June 15, or to obtain at least 50% marks in aggregate in the degree examination.

Admission Procedure

Applicants are required to take the Admission Test (IRMA Test) to be conducted by Institute of Rural Management Anand, in December 2005. For this, applicants have to obtain the IRMA application form in response to their advertisement in newspapers. Registering for IRMA Test is a prerequisite for applying to XIMB's PGPRM.

Selection procedure

Executive Post Graduate Programme in Management


This Programme is designed to contribute towards managerial effectiveness in working executives to help them further their careers in management both in the corporate sector and public systems. As such, the programme seeks to build on the problem-solving skills developed through specialised experience in a particular functional area. Academic inputs provided bring out the inter-relationship among various functional areas as well as the techniques in functional areas other than those in which the participant has experience. The courses aim at providing a generalist's perspective which will enable the candidates to integrate their own function in the organisation's objectives and the larger environment. The participants are also trained in technical and functional skills such as accounting, finance, marketing, and production and are helped to develop their analytical and integrative skills so that they can define problems with clarity and adopt a methodology best suited to deal with them.

Eligibility

The minimum requirements for admission to the three-year part-time Ex-PGP programme are:
A three-year Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in any discipline recognised by the Association of Indian Universities are eligible for Post-Graduate studies in Management.

At least three years of experience in executive capacity in an organisation of repute in the public, private or non-governmental sector. Self-employed persons with minimum five years experience after obtaining qualifying degree can also be considered.

Age limit: Between 24 and 45 years as on 01.07.2006.
Sponsorship or No Objection certificate from the employer for pursuing this course at XIMB.

Selection Procedure


The eligible candidates will be called for Group Discussion and Personal Interview session at Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata or Mumbai. Screening for interview will be based on the candidate's past academic performance and relevant work experience. Candidates will have to meet their own travel expenses. Selected candidates will be informed by mail before 15th April, 2006.

Fellow Programme in Management

XIMB's new fellow programme draws upon national and international experience in doctoral-level education in management and related disciplines. The programme is designed to provide a rich exposure to the methodological issues in management research, apart from the necessary subject-specific training. Selected students will attend Research Training Seminars round the year.

There is an emphasis on imparting in-depth knowledge on the relevant academic debates in the area of research selected by the student. This is operationalised through intensive Research Review Seminars.



Eligibility


Postgraduates in any discipline with at least 55% marks, or those who possess professional qualifications such as BE/BTech, CA, CS, CWA, MBA/PGDM, MCA, MFC, etc., with at least 55% marks are eligible to write the XIMB Research Aptitude Test. In case, the score is available on a letter-grade system, they expect a minimum cumulative score of 4.40 on an 8-point scale (or 5.50 on a 10-point scale). Although the eligibility is defined in the above terms, the Institute would prefer candidates with excellent academic record and relevant professional experience.



Admission Process


All applicants have to appear for the XIMB Research Aptitude Test, usually conducted in early January. The test is conducted at the following centres: Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, and New Delhi. Some centres may be dropped due to inadequate number of applicants. Based on your performance in the above test as well as your academic and professional achievements, a small number of candidates will be invited for a seminar and personal interview at Bhubaneswar.



Fellowships & Assistantships


All FPM students will be given a fellowship of Rs.10,000 per month in their first year, to be renewed annually, subject to satisfactory performance. Ordinarily, the fellowship will be continued for a period of 3 years. Beyond that, if required, the fellowship may be extended in units of six months, for a total period of 4 years. There will also be an opportunity for research assistantships of Rs.5,000 per month, in lieu of 20 hours of assistance per week. Most students should be able to provide the required number of hours towards research assistance from their second year onwards, taking their possible earnings to Rs.15,000 per month from the second year onwards.

Admission Procedure

The cost of the PGCBM Prospectus is Rs. 800. The applicants can obtain the PGCBM Prospectus from the nearest Reliance Webworld in person or from the XIMB office counter in person by cash payment. Each PGCBM prospectus carries a unique User ID and Password for each student which would be used to access the XIMB PGCBM website for online student registration. The student would use the User ID and Password to fill up the online application form at the XIMB Website (www.ximb.ac.in/pgcbm). Once registered, the student would have access to the XIMB web, where relevant information regarding admissions would be posted from time to time.

Fees
The total course fee of the PGCBM Programme is Rs. 1,50,000 (Rupees one lakh fifty thousand only). The total course fee has been divided into three instalments.
