ATM CARD:
The ATM card is used by a customer for operating on an ATM. This card identifies the customer and enables him to conduct his transactions at the ATM. The card is made of plastic; it is embossed and encoded with the relevant details of the account holder at the time of issue.
This card is also used to gain entry into the ATM enclosure by swiping the magnetic stripe across the access lock in the manner indicated near the lock.
FEATURES OF ATM
VIDEO DISPLAY MONITOR:
The main unit is a Video Display Monitor, which acts as the visual interface between the customer and the machine. The display supports larger fonts and animated special effects that heighten customer's interest and understanding, and offers cross selling opportunities. The monitor displays fully programmable messages to guide customers in performing transactions. While graphics and animation displays are tailored to suit the bank as a whole, messages can be input locally to serve as a marketing tool.
There is a privacy filter on the VDM, which ensures that the person standing exactly in front of the ATM alone gets to see the display.
FUNCTION KEYS:
These keys border the display screen and customers choose options through these keys.
KEYBOARD:
A recessed keyboard with 11 or more keys for entering numeric data viz Personal Identification Number (PIN), amount of withdrawal, etc. is available in the front panel. There is a key for each digit from 0 to 9, a cancel key, an enter/OK key, etc. Normally, the keyboard is vandal proof.
TOUCH SCREEN:
The latest ATM comes with touch screens, and customers can “touch the screen” to choose options and also to enter amounts, etc.
ATM:
An ATM (Automated Teller Machine) is a machine at which routine banking transactions can be transacted by customers themselves. It is a self-service delivery channel, which is user-friendly and can render 24x7 services, 365 days a year.
CASH DISPENSER (CD):
Cash Dispenser is a type of ATM, which is similar to an ATM in all respects except that it does not have a depository and hence cannot be used for making deposits.
SECURITY FEATURES:
The prominent security features of the ATM are as follows:
There is a separate door for the ATM enclosure. Access to this enclosure is available only to card holders and is controlled through an Access Lock.
The ATM weighs 800 kgs approximately and it cannot be dismantled easily.
There is a Video Surveillance System (VSS) with a tiny video camera installed to continuously take pictures of each person operating on the ATM.
The branch should hold stock of 6 video cassettes (serially numbered) to be used in rotation. The cassettes presently available in the market run for approximately 20 days 480 hours)/30days (720 hours). The cassettes should be changed after 20/30 days and the earliest should be kept for a period of 4 months. It can then be reused.
TRANSACTIONS AT NETWORKED ATMS
TYPES OF TRANSACTIONS:

WITHDRAWALS:
Withdrawals of cash up to a maximum of Rs. 10,000/- per day subject to availability of balance in the account.
FAST CASH:
Cash can be withdrawn in fixed amounts of Rs.1000, Rs.2000, Rs. 3000 or Rs. 5000 subject to availability of balance.
BALANCE ENQUIRY:
In respect of accounts that are linked to the ATM card.
