Arianna Grande and Usher Whispering
Ariana Grande-Butera known professionally as Ariana Grande, is an American actress and singer-songwriter. Ariana grew up in Boca Raton, Florida where she attended North Broward Preparatory School. Grande made her acting debut in 2008 in the role of Charlotte in 13 on Broadway. From 2010 to 2013, she played Cat Valentine on the Nickelodeon sitcom Victorious and later reprised the role on the spinoff Sam & Cat.
In March 2013, Grande reached mainstream success after The Way from her debut studio album Yours Truly became a top ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified double platinum by the RIAA . The album received critical acclaim and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. This made Grande the first female artist to have their debut record debut in the peak position since Animal by Kesha in January 2010, and the fifteenth female artist overall. Fans of Usher’s more R&B-leaning material will be relieved to discover that he’s traded in the energetic dance-pop of tracks like Scream and DJ Got Us Fallin In Love for cool, minimal hip-hop beats and snapping. Oh, and there’s some seriously sexy whispering going on in the background, as well.
Let me just say that whispering and the funky saxophone may be preparing to take over mainstream radio in a big way. Ariana Grande’s new single Problem features both whispering AND the funky sax, Jason Derulo’s hit Talk Dirty has just the sax, and now Usher’s about to serve up some more whispering with Good Kisser! Gosh, nine years later and the Ying Yang Twins’ Wait (The Whisper Song) is still impacting the popular music scene. I’m not sure who we have to thank for this new saxophone trend, though. I guess both Katy Perry and Lady Gaga did it in 2011 with Last Friday Night and The Edge of Glory, respectively.
Good Kisser was co-written by Usher, Andrew Pop Wansel, and Warren Oak Felder. Wansel and Felder are probably best-known for their work with rapper Nicki Minaj on songs like Right By My Side, Save Me, and Your Love.
