The latest Global Entrepreneur Indicator, a survey conducted in May by the Entrepreneurs' Organization (EO) of about 1,200 entrepreneurs worldwide, found that slightly more than half (52%) believe that the economy in their country will improve in the coming quarter, compared with 34% in the previous survey. Because of this optimism, a solid marjority (70%) expect to increase their number of full-time employees in the next 12 months.
Most entrepreneurs surveyed (59%) said their profits were up compared to the previous quarter, compared with 37% in the previous survey.

Is optimism proportional to confidence, it does play a soul in business. Any business will need it. Precise planning, finance, marketing are key notes but optimism helps you to carry out the rest properly.

I guess you have to have a high level of optimism to be an entrepreneur. Its not exactly an easy type of job and you will face many challenges. Let me share an example of an entrepreneur who was doing business from the age of 5. He had several businesses through high school and college and some of them failed but this didn't stop him. He went on to grow a $1200 investment to a $2.75 m company. He's now on the INSEAD MBA because he realizes he doesn't know it all and can still learn more. You can check out his profile. If a pessimism is negativity, then optimism is about being positive.
As far as entrepreneurs are concerned, they need to be optimistic about their goals and approaches.
A marketing for any business is always an optimistic effort, isn't it?!!
I agree with this. If you are a pessimist, how will you be able to lead, or take risks if you are always expecting the worst?
