Mr. Anand Mahindra is the Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. The Mahindra group, a $6.3 Billion empire, is among the top 10 industrial houses in India. Anand Mahindra is a very prominent figure in the Indian automobile sector. With his dynamic personality and excellent business sense, he has single handedly changed the company profile from a jeep and truck producing firm to a multi-national entity with Utility Vehicles (UVs) Multi Utility Vehicles (MUVs), Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs). Anand Mahindra was born into a well known Punjabi business family. J.C. and K.C Mahindra founded the company Mahindra and Mahindra in 1949. The leadership at Mahindra and Mahindra has always been innovative and inspiring. Anand Mahindra belongs to the new breed of young, well-educated and ambitious family scions. He is a Business Management graduate from Harvard University. He secured his degree in 1981. He returned to India and joined Mahindra Ugine Steel Company Ltd (MUSCO), the country?s foremost producer of specialty steels, as Executive Assistant to the Finance Director. Since his early employment years, Anand Mahindra has displayed his ability of dreaming big and successfully fulfilling his dreams. At MUSCO, he initiated the Mahindra Group?s diversification into the new business areas of real estate development and hospitality management. Later in 1989 he was appointed President and Deputy Managing Director of the company. Further in 1991, he was appointed Deputy Managing Director of Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd, the flagship company of the Mahindra group. At Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd, he is engaged in a comprehensive change program to increase the efficiency of the company, thus making the company more competent to deal with competition in the new liberalized economic environment. In 1997, appointed as the Managing director of the company. In 2003 he was given the additional responsibility of Vice Chairman. As of date he serves the two positions. He is also the co promoter of Kotak Mahindra Finance Ltd., which in 2003 was converted into a bank.

Anand Mahindra is the co-founder of the Harvard Business School Association of India. This association is dedicated to the promotion of professional management in India. Mr. Mahindra is a Director of „The National Stock Exchange of India Limited? appointed under the “Public Representatives” category. He has served as the president of CII (confederation on Indian Industries) in 2003-04. Mr. Mahindra frequently shares his views and ideas on Indian economy and business through his writings in some of India?s leading business magazines. Mr .Mahindra believes that, Corporate Social Responsibility is a question of enlightened self-interest and that no company can divorce itself from the social and development agenda of the country it operates in. He is the Trustee of the K.C. Mahindra educational trust. This trust provides scholarships to students. He is also on the Board of Governors of the Mahindra United World College of India. ? He is the founder chairman of the Mumbai festival, the event which celebrates the rich cultural diversity of the city.
