I joined teaching profession in 1993. I joined as an Assistant Teacher in a school. I choose to be a professor because teaching is my passion and I enjoy the company of young friends. You continue to learn and grow in b school.

What about teaching at b-schools inspires you the most?

Teaching in B school is challenging. The curriculum has to be designed by the faculty in light of changing environment. The faculty has to remain updated for teaching in b school. Students are from varied background and can pose challenge in the class by asking some tough questions.

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe the curriculum should be students centric. The objective of teaching has to be clearly communicated to the students in order to have a desired outcome. Teach with interest and enthusiasm to create the same in your class.

Of course teaching should be more application based rather than theory. I ensure that the case study, quizzes and the overall curriculum is designed to have practical application in it.

Who in your life has influenced you the most?

There are couple of people in my life who have influenced me most. They are my wife Swapna Dalvi, Dr. Mahajan (Principal Pragati college) and Dr. Verma (Director Kohinoor Business School Khandala)

What suggestions would you like to make in the course of MBA?

MBA course should be industry friendly. Outdated topics should be eliminated and industry related topics should be included. It should get updated at periodic intervals.

As a faculty, what kind of projects do you expect students to work upon?

I have assigned couple of the projects to my students. Some of them include Analysis of schemes of mutual funds, company analysis, understanding the capital structure of the company etc.

How are current technological advancements changing your teaching style?

I try to learn the current technological advancements to include them in my teaching and make teaching effective.

What is the impact of mobile technologies boom influencing your area of specialization?

Mobile technologies have also been widely used in teaching of Finance, HR, Marketing etc.

How are social networks influencing your discipline?

Social networks are a great means of sharing information. The younger generation is more inclined towards the use of social networks and as faculties we can make use of these technologies to share and receive information. This would also help us to understand the trends and preferences among younger generation.

How does the economy story of India change your discipline?

My subjects in finance are closely related to the economy. As the economy changes I have to incorporate these changes in my subject areas.

What changes do you see on the horizon in your area of discipline?

The equity and commodity markets will undergo a drastic change in the coming years. As the policies and laws will be modified changes will be evident in the markets. We would be more aligned to international environment.

One touching incident that happened with you in your teaching career?

There were many touching incidences. One of such incidences I would like to share here. There was a student in Std. XII when I used to teach them accounts. The student was very weak in the subject. I called him and asked him his problems. He had his personal reasons and could not find enough time to study as he had to support his family by earning income through washing and ironing clothes. I advised him to come to me and sit for two hours. He expressed his inability to pay fees. I told him that I was not doing this for any monetary benefit. He was regular. When the XII final results were declared the student scored 91 in accounts out of 100. He was very pleased and wanted to offer me money. I denied it and told him that I would have a cup of tea at his place. The boy was in tears when he heard the same. He still calls me regularly and is doing quite well in his life. I think I have received my award.

There is a shortage of eminent professors at b-schools. With more and more institutes offering the MBA course, do you think MBA will become just another degree?

MBA institutes are mushrooming like anything. With more and more institutes the shortage of eminent professors is becoming acute. There should be some restrictions placed on the opening of the institutes. MBA will not become just a degree because though there are thousands of institutes the ones like IIMs have not lost their charms. Of course the good ones should survive and over a period of time the good ones would survive and others will be thrown out of the market. Students are smart these days and they can differentiate good institutes with the other ones.

Do you think the course curriculum is at par with industry expectations?

The course curriculum is not at par with the industry expectations. We all have to work towards making it industry and student friendly.

If you hadn’t been a professor, what would you be? What are your professional/career goals?

If I hadn’t been a professor I had a dream ambition of becoming an Indian air force pilot. I would have then served the nation in a different way. My career goal is to complete my Ph.D by the end of 2013 and then plan for the next step.

What message would you like to give to students across the globe?

Whatever you do, do it with perfection. Enjoy your work. Success will find its own way to reach you.
