Advertisements for prescription drugs

Advertisements for prescription drugs are not very different from those for anything else. We trust consumers to view adverts with a level of scepticism and we know that they form only one part of the research that goes into, say, buying a car.
Such things be advertised or not?

Prescription drugs are meant to be purchased from Medical shops only on the Doctor's prescription.What is the point advertising the same.Ads is going to defeat the purpose of PDs.

The US and New Zealand are the only two countries where direct to consumer (DTC) advertising of prescription drugs is legal. In the US, these ads are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to ensure that they are not false or misleading.
