Brief information in relation to action entrepreneurial thinking and innovation.

Objectives
The aim of this module is to foster an
entrepreneurial mindset amongst postgraduate
and professional participants and to develop
skills that will help them to identify the
potential value of their ideas and convert
those into sustainable economic, social,
environmental and cultural activities and
impacts. Learning takes place in a dynamic,
multidisciplinary team environment, which
replicates the reality of new ventures.
In the second half of the module, participants
will embark on multidisciplinary team projects,
which provide them with an opportunity to
apply the substance of the themes of the
module in practice. Each team member will
create a video presentation, website and
digital marketing campaign. Subsequently,
teams negotiate internally to select a single
opportunity for further development as a
new venture. At the end of the module, teams
present this new venture along with their plans
and launch strategy.
Skills
This module encompasses three core areas of skill
development and learning for participants:
? Understanding Entrepreneurship Defining
entrepreneurship, the entrepreneurial mindset,
entrepreneurial motivation and capabilities e.g.
risk-taking, negotiation, networking, leadership,
team-building and managing failure.
? Idea Generation, Recognition and Selection
Defining innovation and identifying opportunities
in participants’ own area of interest, assessing the
potential impact and feasibility of opportunities,
protecting, presenting and promoting ideas.
? Launching New Projects and Ventures Routes
to the viable realisation of new ventures, planning,
project/venture resourcing, ownership and
stakeholders, presentation and pitching, sales,
marketing and branding, corporate responsibility,
managing success and failure.

On Completion, Participants Should:
? Have a broad interpretation of entrepreneurship
and an understanding of its role in the context of
their career aspirations.
? Be able to recognise potential opportunities for
themselves and opportunities which may emerge
in collaboration with others.
? Understand how to develop a structured plan to
move ideas from the creative ideas stage through
evaluation, translation and, ultimately, realisation
of the new venture.
? Be able to identify the problems that are likely
to be encountered during the development and
implementation process and develop a strategy to
navigate around them.
? Have acquired an appreciation of the challenges
and rewards of launching a new venture and an
understanding of the critical activities involved in
early-stage venture growth.
? Have developed a network of peers spanning
numerous disciplines.
? Have acquired a set of transferable skills including
team-building, negotiation, networking, pitching.
? Have acquired a set of practical skills around video
production, website development and digital
communication and marketing.
