What does it take to be a successful creative writer?

Of course, there must be a hell load of awesome writers but only few make it a mark. Definitely the successful one must be unique or different from others in terms of abilities but what are the other factors that could determine one's success as a writer in terms of achieving goals and financially establishment?

The more number of people liking your writing, the direct feedback that you get from your audience is something that i would really appreciate. Apart from this writing should be such that is relative to audience and hence the writer should have the ability to know and under stand his/her audience and write accordingly
