Life of a people is divided into three phases. !is phase where he is innocent, he is a child and lives in his whole life. 2nd phase is where he is young. He want to conquer the world. Win everything. 3rd phase is where he have seen all the phase and have experience. So which phase you like the most??

i believe all the stages of life are important you can choose one as best or as priority or good phase......each phase teaches us something that we carry forward in the later phase

I find the 2nd phase of life, the most interesting one. when a person is 'young' wants to conquer the whole world, can do everything that he wishes to.It is the most energetic and active stage of our life!

I think 1st phase is the cutest phase where one don't knows anything. Whatever he does is cute. Its shows only love love and love.

Your *lathe* is from 1952. The motor could be
older or newer.

Your question is complicated.

1) can you run your motor on single phase using
a VFD without harming it?

2) can you run your motor on a rotary converter?

I think you need to turn this situation around
in your mind, and decide what is the ultimate
configuration that *you* want to achieve for
running the lathe.

Then do whatever it takes to do that.

If you really want the variable speed
capabilities of the VFD, go ahead and try using
it. If the motor insulation breaks down it
was probably in trouble before that - and the
solution is to have it re-wound or simply replace
it with a new three phase motor. The cost
for those might be comparable.

If you want the ruggedness of the rotary
converter then 5 hp is not too large. It will
consume about 240 watts of power at idle which
is about two light bulbs. And of course you
only run the converter when running the machine.

Try to decide in your mind how you *really*
want this thing set up.
