Inflation soars to new 42-week high
Inflation surged to highest in 42 months led by increase in prices of tea, spices and fruits.
The wholesale price-based index rose 0.04 per cent points to touch 7.61% for the week ended April 26 from 7.57% for the week ended Apr. 19, 2008
Inflation had last reached the high of 7.76 percent for the week ended Nov. 6, 2004.
Finance Minister P Chidambaram, said, ``Steps are taken with the intention that they will bear fruits``
He further said that the current level indicates inflation is stable.
More items are likely to be banned from futures trading to contain inflation.
