WHO HE IS
Deepak Parekh is the Chairman of HDFC (Housing Development Finance Corporation), which is a top mortgage finance company. Besides being the Chairman, he is also the unofficial crisis consultant of the Indian Government. He, with his hard work and intelligence developed HDFC into the huge financial multinational firm that it is today. He also served Satyam Computer Services as an independent director from 11th January to 17th July, 2009. He believes in hard work, great zeal and perfection.

However, he finds sufficient time for charitable causes and supports 25 NGOs involved in a host of development activities, medical services and even welfare of stray cattle.

Early Childhood
Deepak Parekh have spent a part of his early childhood in Burma, where his father was posted with the Central Bank of India. He have very fond memories of the Central Bank of India. His grandfather, Thakordas Parekh, was the first employee of the bank. Even his father was a Central Bank of India employee for 40 years. He have a special affection for the Central Bank of India. Even today, He share a special bond with them. They are one of his main bankers.

Deepak Parekh's role models are an interesting mix of entrepreneurs and professionals. They include, the late Dhirubhai Ambani, Narayana Murthy and Kumar Mangalam Birla, ("for taking so much responsibility at such a young age.") CAREER
Mr. Parekh started his career as a chartered accountant in Ernst & Young Management Consultancy Services in New York. When he came to back to India, he worked with Grind lays Bank and Chase Manhattan Bank as the assistant representative for South Asia. In 1964, he was made the Chairman of the high level of expert committee which was formed to suggest the ideas for the growth of the Unit Scheme. He was appointed the Chairman of the Advisory Group for Securities Market Regulation by the Reserve Bank of India. Later on, he became the Chairman of the National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd.
CAREER
He has served the Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. as a Non-Executive Independent Director, has been a Director of WNS Global Services Pvt. Ltd. and a Director of Steel Authority of India Ltd., Airports Authority of India and Lafarge India Pvt. Ltd. He serves the Exide Industries Ltd. as an Alternate Director and as a Director of Indo-German Chamber Of Commerce. HDFC happened in 1978. He had worked in various parts of the world when HT (Parekh's maternal uncle, H T Parekh, who founded HDFC in 1977) asked Deepak Parekh, "How long will you continue to go round the world? Come and settle down, this is an Indian organization."
CAREER
He had been to the US, the UK, Hong Kong and the Middle East, which was then every body's dream. He chucked up his multinational job and came to HDFC. And he have been here ever since.
In 1978, he joined HDFC and was promoted as the Managing Director in 1985 and thus became the Chairman in 1993. He is a member of the proactive advisory board of the world's biggest student determined organization AIESEC India. Along with this, he has also been a part of several Committees made by Indian Government.
