As new therapies emerge, Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs enable doctors and other front-line practitioners to discover and adopt the treatment options most beneficial to their patients. But physician attendance alone does not necessarily translate into retention of information, much less the implementation of effective new practices.
This Best Practices, LLC study found a singular challenge is a "resource, targeting and quality paradox" in which the most often used CME delivery channels and formats (face-to-face and lectures, respectively) are often the least efficient and lowest-rated for information retention and behavioral change.
This study probes the strengths and weaknesses of common CME delivery channels and formats. In particular, the study highlights the growing role that E-CME and the Internet are playing in effectively targeting physicians, tracking program performance and enhancing program efficiency.
CME leaders can use the industry benchmarks and executive narratives from this research to understand what are the most effective CME delivery channels and formats as well as the growing role E-CME will play going forward.

Miami, FL (Jan 25, 2010) - Medimix International announced today the appointment of Joao Saraiva as Managing Director for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). For this newly created function, Joao will be based in the Medimix offices in London and will be responsible for overseeing the activities of the company in Europe, as well as emerging markets of Middle East and Africa.
Joao Saraiva brings 25 years of comprehensive experience in global pharmaceutical research with a specialization in oncology (Takeda, Merck Serono, Chugai), as well as knowledge at the agency level. He was formerly Deputy Chief Operating Officer of InterCAM, which was subsequently merged with the Cegedim group. He brings extensive expertise in international healthcare marketing research, as well as sales force optimization, and product portfolio development.
Industry experts have advised that the challenge for the life sciences industry in 2010 and the years to come will be the need to move away from high-cost Western niche markets and to serve global mass markets at lower costs. Under Joao Saraiva, Medimix EMEA will move to meet this challenge and assert itself as a key player in improving global healthcare outcomes, assisting companies in this shift in thinking to make sure their products deliver real value in a more complex world.
"We are delighted to see Joao Saraiva joining our London office," comments Henry Gazay, CEO of Medimix International. "Joao is a recognized expert in our field, and he will play an instrumental role in developing our activities towards existing and new clients in Europe, Middle East and Africa. Aside from the traditional Top 5 European markets where Medimix has operated for more than 20 years, we see an increasing interest in Eastern Europe, select Middle Eastern and African markets, which represent new potential of growth for our clients. The addition of new staff and a stronger management team in London is our direct response to this need."
"The opportunity to work with Medimix International is an exciting challenge in my professional career," remarked Joao. "Together with the technology, Medimix combines the knowhow that is necessary for the successful delivery of new market research products and services adapted to the business environment and demands of our clients. Moreover, being an international researcher, with Medimix I found the right team for the global research and operational capabilities that are requested by the pharmaceutical industry."
